SPIRITS stolen from a shed by an unemployed Adpar man, disappeared from the hedge where he had stashed them, a court heard last week.
David Graham Lewis, aged 54, of Lower Ground Floor Flat, Maes y Ffynnon, pleaded guilty to a charge of burglary with theft when he appeared before Aberystwyth magistrates on Wednesday.
The court heard that the owner of Fedwen Tentage , Drefach, Llandysul checked CCTV footage after noticing his shed had been broken into on September 5.
The footage showed a man and woman at the property the previous night. The man was seen to smash the window and climb in, and was identified as the defendant.
Vaughan Pritchard-Jones, prosecuting, said Lewis had been out drinking with a local woman, and they were walking home when he decided to break into the shed.
Two bottles of Jack Daniels and other spirits were taken, worth approximately £100, and the defendant claimed they disappeared after he left them in a hedge to retrieve them later.
Iestyn Davies defending said his client had made full and frank admissions despite not being clearly identifiable on the CCTV footage.
He said: “He says he was very drunk at the time. He had drunk more than he usually does as he is on medication for depression and mental health issues.
“He accepts his actions and is very disappointed in himself for being here today.”
Following a probation report, Lewis was given a six month community order with thinking skills sessions.
He was also ordered to pay £100 compensation, a £60 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.
