CANTREF’S ‘On Your Doorstep’ project is already proving a huge success.
The project, which received more than £50,000 through the BIG Lottery funding, aims to ensure tenants in rural areas have more access to information and services.
Launched in May, the project has a mobile office travelling around Cantref estates daily, visiting 35 communities on a monthly basis and has engaged with more than 250 tenants.
Rhiannon Ling, Community Regeneration Officer, said: “It’s very important for Cantref to be out in the community, the project allows us to communicate with our tenants face to face, which helps to build relationships and strengthen communities where our tenants live.”
The van has an IT suite, funded by Communities 2.0, and has a number of laptops, where tenants are shown how to access the internet.
Working in partnership with a number of agencies such as West Wales Credit Union, CAVO, Careers Wales, Want to Work, has resulted in providing support and access to job clubs and training sessions, benefit and money management advice.
Staff are also on hand to assist and address any housing concerns.
Elin Brock, Director of Housing and Community Services, said: “Being able to work with our partners to provide access to job clubs, digital inclusion and money advice on people’s doorsteps has been a great success and we welcome other local partners to come on board and support us in this venture.”
