Local choir Côr y Wiber hit the high notes this weekend when they were crowned winners of S4C’s prestigious Côr Cymru competition.
The Newcastle Emlyn based choir triumphed in the eagerly awaited final round of the national contest which took place on Sunday, and was broadcast live from Aberystwyth Art Centre.
The female choir, of around 30 members, took home the coveted Côr Cymru trophy and £4,000 prize money, after competing against five other choirs in the final.
Conductor Dr Angharad Thomas: “Fair play, I was really chuffed. It was such a whirlwind of events, but I was overjoyed with the result.
“It took hours and hours of rehearsals and a lot of commitment for the choir to get to this stage.”
Dr Thomas, who has been in charge of the choir since it established in 2010, added that the choir had received many messages of congratulation from the local area following Sunday’s success.
Hefin Owen, of Rondo Media production company, which makes the S4C series, said: "Congratulations to Côr y Wiber on winning the Côr Cymru 2013 title.
“It was a fantastic final and the Aberystwyth Arts Centre was brimming with excitement throughout the competition.
“It's safe to say that the standard this year was as excellent as ever.”
