MP welcomes tax cuts in Budget

Ceredigion’s Welsh Liberal Democrat MP Mark Williams has welcomed the announcement in today’s budget which will see the Income Tax Personal Allowance will be rise to £10,000 in April 2014 – one year sooner than had been expected. This means 23,800 working people in Ceredigion will get a further Income Tax cut, bringing the total tax cut to £700 a year since this Government came into power in 2010.

 

In addition, this welcome news also means that 2,630 low-earners in Ceredigion will have been lifted out of paying Income Tax altogether, thanks this Liberal Democrats policy being implement by the Coalition Government.

 

Commenting from the House of Commons, Mark Williams said:

‘Raising the tax free allowance to £10,000 was the number one priority of the Liberal Democrats at the General Election – so important that is was on the front page of our manifesto – so it is great that today’s budget means that almost 24,000 working people in Ceredigion will see the benefit in their pay packet.

‘We are cutting taxes for working people, in order to create a stronger economy and a fairer society, including fairer taxes.  When times are tough, with rising bills and wages not keeping pace with inflation, we want to give people real, practical help.  Cutting Income Tax will not deal with all of those problems, but it will help. And I hope it will make a big difference to families in Ceredigion.’
