Countless people in local rugby and other circles are rooting for ex-Cardigan RFC player Dylan Rees who is fighting for life in hospital more than a week after suffering a serious head injury in a match.

The 30-year-old scrum-half, a former pupil at St Dogmaels Primary School and Cardigan Secondary School, was playing for Clwb Rygbi Cymru Caerdydd when he suffered concussion after a tackle in the final moments of a game against Llandaff a week last Saturday.

As a precaution an ambulance was called and the player taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff where it was discovered he’d suffered a serious brain bleed and underwent emergency surgery before going into a coma.

Since the accident police officer Dylan has been sedated in the hospital’s ITU ward and remains critically ill with his family keeping a bedside vigil.

His parents Graham and Gwenllian Rees live at Penrhiw in St Dogmaels – Mr Rees is secretary of Cardigan Rugby Club – and Dylan has two brothers Wyn and Aled and sister Sian.

Dylan’s first cousin is Wales rugby legend and TV pundit Jonathan Davies who is being kept informed and tweeted “Come on buddy pull through”.

Ian Gollop, chairman of St Dogmaels Community Council and life president of Cardigan Rugby Club told the Tivy-Side “As far as the village and rugby club are concerned everyone’s thoughts and prayers are with Dylan, his mother and father Gwenllian and Graham and all the family.”
