Appeal over playground housing

A housing association has lodged an appeal against refusal of planning consent for eight homes on a children’s play area in Cardigan.

An amended planning application by Tai Ceredigion proposed building eight homes on the recreation site at Maesglas.

Initially the housing association applied to erect twelve homes which sparked strong opposition from local residents and a 335-name petition was handed to the county council.

The Maesglas site is the subject of an application for village green status.

Planning officers rejected the latest application on grounds that the proposal did not demonstrate that provision of housing and relocation of the play area would give rise to enhanced open space provision.

The department claimed it would result in a reduction in the existing open space and not meet the criteria of the Ceredigion UDP.

A Wales Assembly planning inspector will consider the appeal.
