MP raises questions over broadband rollout

Ceredigion’s Welsh Liberal Democrat MP Mark Williams has again raised issue of the roll out of Superfast Cymru, on this occasion questioning the Secretary of State for Wales in Parliament, about the criteria the Assembly Government used to decide the order of priority for the roll out of the project.

Mark Williams asked the Secretary of State in last week’s Wales Office questions whether he was aware of how the priority for roll out of the project was decided, given the disappointing response Mark has received from the Assembly Minister.  The Secretary of State said he would inquire further.

Commenting from the House of Commons, Mark Williams said:

‘Whilst the roll out of Superfast Broadband is rightly the responsibility of the Assembly, I am yet to receive a satisfactory explanation from the Assembly Minister as to how the priority for roll out was decided, and hope the Secretary of State may be able to receive a more satisfactory responsible about the criteria used.

‘I am disappointed Ceredigion has been put into the second phase of roll out.  As a rural area with many parts that are hard to reach I would have thought this would more than qualify Ceredigion for the first phase of roll-out.  Instead we have to wait a further two years for work on the Superfast Cymru project to begin in Ceredigion, with little explanation as to why.’
