Mid Wales 'missing out' on top government jobs
9:28am Wednesday 13th February 2013 in News
Mid and North Wales are missing out on top government jobs, according to Plaid AMs.
Calls have been made for the First Minister to spread highest paid officials more fairly, after research by the Party of Wales found that as many Welsh Government top officials work in London as do in North or Mid Wales.
A Freedom of Information request by Plaid Cymru discovered just two members of the senior management team work at the Welsh Government offices at Llandudno Junction and another two work at Aberystwyth. This compares to nearly 90 senior management working at Cathays Park, Cardiff, and two senior management officials working at the Welsh Government’s new offices in London.
The figures also revealed that the North and Mid Wales offices have suffered a 50% reduction in the numbers of senior management team working there over the last two-a-half years.
Ceredigion AM Elin Jones, said: "It is only right that the economic benefits of devolution are spread fairly across the length and breadth of Wales but, when it comes to the most senior posts in Welsh Government, this is far from the case.
She added: "To add further insult to injury, the number of senior managers has halved at locations in Mid and North Wales while extra senior managers have been employed at Cathays Park.
"When the offices in Mid Wales and North Wales were established, I had always expected the number of senior managers to increase over time, not decrease."
