Brave Amanda loses battle with cancer
12:00am Tuesday 15th January 2013 in News
After mother-of-three Amanda Rogers lost her brave fight against cancer her family has expressed deep gratitude to countless people from far and wide who rallied round and raised funds for the 41-year-old to receive specialist treatment.
Amanda, of Dolwerdd, Penparc died at her home on Thursday after a long battle against the disease.
Last year she was told she needed specialist chemotherapy treatment costing £18,000 which is not funded by the National Assembly.
After the Tivy-Side published the story it sparked a huge response with people organising various events.
Remarkably the required money was raised in a matter of weeks and Amanda was able to be treated at Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli.
Before and during treatment she was her usual bubbly sparkling self, lifting those around her as she refused to be anything but positive about the prognosis.
But sadly there was no happy ending.
As people from all walks of life shared the family’s grief Amanda’s husband Cliff told the Tivy-Side “Amanda fought hard but it was not to be. It is a terrible time but on behalf of us all I would like to say a big thank you from the bottom of my heart to the very many people who raised the money for Amanda to receive treatment. We will always be indebted to them and once again Diolch yn fawr.”
Local Ceredigion County Councillor Haydn Lewis said “The community did everything possible to help and it really was a wonderful effort.
“But sadly we have lost Amanda and our thoughts at this time are with her family especially husband Cliff and children Luke, Ben and Chloe.”
Amanda also leaves her parents Ted and Elaine, sister Melanie, brother Paul, mother-in-law Mona, sister-in-law Rachel, and brothers-in-law Martin, Robert, Keith and Martin
The funeral is being held tomorrow with a public service at St. Mary’s Church in Cardigan at 11am followed by interment in the town cemetery. There are family flowers only, but donations in lieu, if desired, shared between Cardigan Cancer Care and Cardigan Oxygen Therapy Centre, being received by Peter Evans, Funeral Director, 54 Pendre, Cardigan (tel. 01239 615266).
