Llechryd Bridge was closed on Wednesday evening following the discovery of cracks in one of the upstream masonry cut waters following the recent high river levels.
A Ceredigion Council spokesperson said: "The Environment Agency intend to remove the trees and debris which have collected against the cutwater as soon as river levels allow and then an engineer from the council will carry out a detailed inspection to establish the extent and cause of the cracking. The length of time that the bridge will need to be closed to motorised vehicles will not be known until this detailed inspection has been carried out but the bridge was reopened to pedestrian on Friday morning after the damaged area was cordoned off."
