Hywel Dda deny closure rumours

Rumours that Bronglais Hospital closed it’s A&E department last month have been strongly refuted by the health board.

MP Mark Williams has voiced his concerns following reports of a closure of the department on October 26.

Mr Williams said he was contacted by a number of worried constituents who told him ambulances containing emergency cases were apparently diverted to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital as Casualty at Bronglais had to shut its doors.

However, Hywel Dda health board stated that the department did not close and 35 patients received treatment at A&E that night.

A Hywel Dda spokesman said: "No patients were turned away from Bronglais Hospital. Hywel Dda Health Board has a strict protocol in place with the Welsh Ambulance service to ensure patients, depending upon their needs, are taken to the most appropriate place to get the right care that they need as quickly as possible.”

Mr Williams has written to the Chief Executive and Chairman of the Hywel Dda Local Health Board and also to the Welsh Government’s Health Minister demanding an explanation for the alleged closure.
