Cardigan's Jigso children's centre is now in a battle for survival as funding sources dry up.

Jigso trustees and staff met with local AM Elin Jones this week to try and find a solution to the popular centre's cash crisis.

Jigso, which celebrates its 16th anniversary this September, is having difficulty sourcing grants to fund salaries for its one full time and four part-time staff members.

"The situation is now very serious," said Jigso chair Linda Grace.

Elin Jones agreed to speak to relevant ministers at the Assembly and also be involved with meetings between Jigso and Ceredigion County Council.

It would be fair to say that part of the reason behind increased crime committed by young people, is the disconnect between children and parents. How are meaningful relationships developed if children are placed in front of the tv/pc/gameboy (no doubt for convenience) rather than interacting with parents in a fun and stimulating way?

Before this valuable resource disappears, why not take your children to Jig-So and learn about what they do. It's vital that children and parents have common ground - something that they participate in together.

My father was a member of Teifi Lodge and during his year as Master, he initiated me. It changed our relationship forever and we became best friends. We had something in common, something that brought us together and developed our mutual social circle. How I wish I'd found something years/decades ealier.

Don't miss your opportunity to bond with your children at Jig-So.

i cant believe that jis-so is facing difficulty, im a pembs mum and i am very happy to commute to cardigan to go2 jig-so.Its a fab place for children to play, maybe pembrokeshire council could dig deep and help with funding as i know of at least 10 pembs mums that love jig-so!!!! Also jig-so is open thro the school holidays so pop down and meet the fab staff and let your children play and have a fab time!!!!!

I too have had many pleasurable visits to Jigso with my children and cannot understand why Ceredigion County council will not continue to fund it. Jigso has such a unique position within the commuity. Myself and other parents regularly travel from other counties to use it.We live in a rural place where parents. especially mothers of young children can feel isolated. Places such as Jigso allow both parents and children with opportunities to socialise with others and take part in a range of activities;trips, fun days etc, that they otherwise would not have.I think that the funding situation needs to urgently looked at. The staff at Jigso do a wonderful job and as a mother of three, I really appreciate Jigso for simply being there. It would be terrible if it had to close due to lack of funding. Come on Ceredigion, get your priorities right. Funding for Jigso is crucial. Don't let our children down!
