Transylvanian gypsy music

A night of Transylvanian Gypsy music comes to Theatr Mwldan in the form of Tcha Limberger’s Kalotaszeg Trio on Monday, November 9.

This trio deliver bursts of soaring musical tragedy and czardas madness, played with breathtaking passion and astonishing virtuosity in true Hungarian Gypsy Band style.

A truly accomplished multi-instrumentalist, world class violinist Tcha Limberger comes from a famous family of Gypsy musicians and grew up with the Gypsy-jazz style of Django Reinhardt. Drawn to Hungarian gypsy music from an early age, he spent three years studying its roots in Budapest.

Limberger last performed at Theatr Mwldan with the Budapest Gypsy Orchestra in 2008. Together with the highest regarded rhythm section of modern times - Berki Viktor on bass and Toni Rudi on Brac, Limberger returns to perform the most captivating music from this tradition.

This, the most beautiful of all Hungarian music, comes from a remote area of Transylvania called ‘Kalotaszeg’, where Hungarian, Romanian and Gypsy cultures rub shoulders. This very old, very local style of music is deeply connected to the lives of those who live there, and follows many from the cradle to the grave. Incredibly, it almost died out in the early 1900’s, but, thanks mostly to Bela Bartok and Kodaly, it was saved from dying out.

Tickets for Tcha Limberger’s Kalotaszeg Trio, are £14 (£12 concessions). Book online at www.mwldan.co.uk or call the Box Office on 01239 621200. Evening meals will be available in Caffi Mwldan from 6.00pm before the show. Pre-book by calling Theatr Mwldan’s Box Office.
