HAILED as a masterpiece of 21st century dance, the English National Ballet’s Giselle comes to cinemas for the first time and will be screened at Cardigan’s Theatr Mwldan on Thursday, May 24.

Giselle, and her fellow community of migrant workers are cast out of their jobs in a condemned garment factory.

This classic story of love, betrayal and redemption has been reimagined in a stunning new version, with sets and costumes designed by Academy Award-winning designer Tim Yip (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon).

It has been described by critics as an ‘ominous, gothic’ (The Observer) adaptation of Adolphe Adam’s original score by composer Vincenzo Lamagna.

The music is performed by the English National Ballet Philharmonic with lighting design from Tony Award-winner Mark Henderson.

The ballet, which has won an Olivier Award and the South Bank Sky Arts Award for English National Ballet, received rapturous five-star reviews and was sold out when performed at London's Sadler's Wells.

Filmed live at the Liverpool Empire in October 2017, Akram Khan’s Giselle is directed for the screen by Ross McGibbon.

Tickets for Akram Khan’s Giselle, to be screened at 7.15pm, are £12.50 (£11.50) and are available now from Theatr Mwldan’s box office on 01239 621200, online at www.mwldan.co.uk or via the Mwldan app.
