Rising star of Irish music at Burnett's Hill With two BBC Radio Two folk awards to his name, plus an acclaimed new album just having been released, Daoirí Farrell is unquestionably one of the rising stars of the Irish folk music scene Hailed as the natural successor to the likes of Christy Moore and Andy Irvine, and as 'the real deal' by radio presenter Mark Radcliffe, Daoirí (pronounced 'Derry') is in big demand to appear as a headline act on this summer's folk festival circuit, with Cambridge and Shrewsbury among those having already signed him up.

Before that, however, Pembrokeshire music lovers will have a chance to discover what the fuss is all about when he appears at Burnett's Hill, Martletwy, on Wednesday, May 16 as part of the chapel's spring series of world music concerts.

Born in Dublin, Daoirí took up music at the relatively late age of 16 and only started to perform at 23, releasing his accomplished debut album ‘The First Turn’ in 2009. He then took an extended break from recording to pursue a degree in Applied Music at Dundalk followed by an MA in Music Performance at the World Academy of Music in the University of Limerick.

Since Daoirí's return to the stage, playing banjo and bouzouki and singing, he has enjoyed a meteoric rise, performing alongside some of the biggest names in Irish and international folk music and winning a string of awards - as well as picking up the two BBC folk awards, he became the All Ireland Champion Singer in 2013. A regular guest at the world famous Celtic Connections festival, he recently toured major concert venues on both sides of the Atlantic as part of the 'all-star' Transatlantic Sessions line-up.

“It is great that we are able to bring a musician of Daoirí's stature down here to our little venue in Martletwy,” said concert organiser Keith Johnson. “This is chance for local people to enjoy an intimate concert with a singer and musician who is well on the way to great things.”

Tickets for the concert cost £10 and are available from Main Street Music in Pembroke or from 01646 651725.
