SET against the intensely dramatic and passionate backdrop of the French Revolution, All’Opera’s presentation of Andrea Chénier from the Teatro Alla Scala opera house in Milan will be screened as a live broadcast at Cardigan’s Theatr Mwldan on Wednesday, February 21 (7.15pm).

The opera is loosely based on the turbulent real-life events of the poet of the same name.

A tale of love, passion and sacrifice. Chénier falls in love with young aristocrat Maddalena, and will do anything to win over her heart. However, he is not the only one.

Maddelena’s family servant Carlo Gérard secretly adores her but also resents the privileged upper classes. A masterpiece that is widely considered to contain some of the most magnificent arias ever written, which are lyrically inspired by the real Chénier’s poetry.

First performed at the Teatro Alla Scala in 1896, Umberto Giordano’s opera in four acts is brought to life by Russian soprano Anna Netrebko and her husband Yusif Eyvazov.

Tickets for All’Opera productions are £16 (£15) and are available now from Theatr Mwldan’s box office on 01239 621200, online at www.mwldan.co.uk or via the new MWLDAN app.
