POETRY fans who didn’t get tickets for John Cooper Clarke at Cardigan’s Theatr Mwldan (it sold out weeks ago) can instead hear our very own Mancunian stand-up poet and regular Cellar Bards host Dave Urwin on the same night – Friday, February 23 - in the Castle Café Cellar Bar.

Doors and the bar at the Cardigan venue open at 7.45pm, the event starts at 8pm. Entry is £3.

Dave is polishing up his Manc accent to stage a special event … ‘It’s Not John Cooper Clarke at the Cellar’.

And as well as his tribute to the great punk poet there will be plenty of time for open mic slots – for poets, prose writers and singers.

Cellar Bards co-organiser Jackie Biggs, said: “Our popular host Dave Urwin has lived in west Wales for many years but comes originally from Manchester and has been known to entertain local audiences with some impressive John Cooper Clarke tributes.

“As the February Cellar Bards falls on the same night that JCC is appearing at Theatr Mwldan and many of our regulars haven’t been able to get tickets for that, we thought we’d do our best to provide some Cooper Clarke magic.

“And it’s always a pleasure to listen to the work of our talented local writers on the open mic. We provide the opportunity for writers of all ages and styles to come and read or perform their work in a friendly and relaxed environment.

“We are not exclusively spoken word either, as there is always room for a song or two as well.”

Open mic spots are available for writers of poetry, short stories, micro-fiction and novels. Just put your name down at the door if you want to read. Or go along to listen to a great variety of spoken word performances.
