CLOUDS Harp Quartet’s music has been celebrated for combining modern and experimental elements with melodic and moving qualities.

Now they will be bringing their dramatic and captivating performance to Cardigan’s Theatr Mwldan on Saturday, June 10 at 7.30pm.

Clouds composer, founder and one quarter of the group, Esther Swift (also Twelfth Day and Swift & Lindop) has been likened to Kate Bush, Eddie Reader and Joanna Newsom.

Drawing on her background in Scottish folk music and improvisation, her music also brings in jazz, blues, dance and minimalist influences. The results are enthralling, enchanting and beautiful.

Despite their classical training (the four met while studying at the Royal Northern College of Music), they play mostly by ear, and while the compositions are carefully and tightly arranged, there is a freedom and intimacy to the performances, and a sense that they take real pleasure in playing together.

Tickets for Clouds Harp Quartet are £12 (£10), £3 - mates rates (a scheme for 11-18 year olds, see Theatr Mwldan’s website for details) can be booked online or via mobile by visiting www.mwldan.co.uk, or directly with Mwldan’s box office on 01239 621200.
