THIS year’s lecturer at the annual Maenclochog Festival will be the well-known broadcaster, Huw Edwards.

Huw is to be seen regularly on our screens as the main presenter of the BBC’s flagship news programme News at Ten. This he has done since 2003. He has also presented several notable programmes on S4C including a series on Patagonia and recently a programme on the Aberfan disaster.

The subject of his lecture at Neuadd Maenclochog on Friday, June 23, will be ‘God and the Ginshop’ when he will tell the story of the Welsh chapels in London.

He has already published a book on the subject and he has a wealth of information to share. The lecture will be delivered in Welsh.

And by the way, place him on a stool in front of an organ he will play all the great hymn tunes with aplomb. Delun Gibby will sing a few of William Williams Pantycelyn’s great hymns at the event. Entrance fee will be £5 at the door and the event starts at 7.30pm.

The annual trek across the Preseli will be held the following morning. Trekkers to meet at Bwlchgwynt at 10am for what will be the ninth occasion. Several of the trekkers have walked every year as a symbolic gesture in memory of those who fought to keep the slopes free of military presence in the late 1940s.

G?yl Maenclochog will conclude with a concert by Bois y Frenni on Saturday evening.
