Theatr Mwldan Film Society presents Maps to the Stars (18) on February 1, 6pm.
Hollywood, Babylon, USA. Canadian master David Cronenberg strips Tinseltown bare in this fiendish and fiercely intelligent satire of the movie business. Julianne Moore is stunning as a desperate, insecure and scheming middle-aged actress; John Cusack plays a TV psychologist and self-help guru with a stable of celebrity clients and problems of his own. Add to these Mia Wasikowska as a pyromaniac PA, Robert Pattinson as a limo driver, struggling actor and aspiring screenwriter, plus various wives, agents, and phantoms who stroll periodically through the carnage and you have a milieu driven by all the wrong values, peeling back Hollywood's skin-deep façade to reveal a dystopia that's at once recognizable and alien. Cronenberg's satirical incisions reach new depths in this outrageous, disturbing new work from the contemporary master.
