Theatr Gwaun is showing Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty this month.
Matthew Bourne is one of the UK’s most successful choreographers, reimagining classic works with stunning modern settings and gothic flourishes, and bringing ballet to countless new audiences.
His New Directions company is currently selling out with startling performances of Edward Scissorhands, and now audiences in Fishguard have the opportunity to see his smash hit Sleeping Beauty on the big screen.
The completion of his internationally celebrated trio of Tchaikovsky ballet masterworks, his Sleeping Beauty is a Gothic Romance. Bourne begins the heroine’s story in the year of Sleeping Beauty’s first performance – when fairies, vampires and decadent opulence fed the Gothic imagination – and awakens Aurora from her century-long slumber in the mysteries of the modern world.
