Special guest at The Cellar Bards spoken word event this month is poet Adam Horovitz. His latest work, A Thousand Laurie Lees, was published this year to coincide with the Laurie Lee centenary celebrations.

It draws on memoir, myth and literature inspired by Cider with Rosie country, where Adam grew up. He’ll be reading from that and from his poetry collections at the event in The Cellar Bar, Cardigan, on Friday, November 28, from 8pm.

The son of the poets Michael and Frances Horovitz, Adam has been writing since childhood. He released his first pamphlet, Next Year in Jerusalem, in 2004 and a second, The Great Unlearning, in 2009. He was the poet in residence on the official website of Glastonbury Festival in 2009.

His debut collection, Turning, was published by Headland in 2011. He was awarded a Hawthornden Fellowship in 2012. This year he was judge of the Manchester Poetry Prize and the Bare Fiction poetry competition.

The Cellar Bards meet on Friday, November 28, in the Cellar Bar, Cardigan. Doors and the bar open at 7.30pm, the event starts at 8pm. Entry is £3.

As always, there are open mic sessions open to writers of poetry, short stories, micro-fiction and novels. Just put your name down at the door if you want to read. Or just go along and listen to a great variety of spoken word literature from Adam and many talented local writers.
