One of the brightest sparks in contemporary poetry and fiction, Bethany W Pope, will be special guest at The Cellar Bards this month.

An award-winning author, Bethany, who comes originally from Florida, USA, studied at Trinity, Carmarthen, and received her PhD from Aberystwyth University’s creative writing programme. She now lives in Swindon.

She’ll be reading from her latest work at the Cellar Bards spoken word event on Friday, October 31, from 8pm at the Cellar Bar, Quay Street, Cardigan.

Bethany was a finalist for the Faulkner-Wisdom Awards, the Cinnamon Press Novel competition, and the Ink, Sweat and Tears poetry competition and she was commended for the Poetry London competition.

She has published three poetry collections; A Radiance (Cultured Llama, 2012) Crown of Thorns, (Oneiros Books, 2013), and The Gospel of Flies (Writing Knights Press 2014). Her third full collection Undisturbed Circles has been accepted by Lapwing Press and will be released later this year, and her fourth, Persephone in the Underworld, has been accepted by Rufus Books for publication in 2016. Her work will be appearing in three anthologies - The Poet’s Quest for God (Eyewear), Gothic Anthology (Parthian Books), and Raving Beauties (Bloodaxe Books).

The Cellar Bards meet on Friday, October 31, in the Cellar Bar, Cardigan. Doors and the bar open at 7.30pm, the event starts at 8pm. Entry is £3.

As always, there are open mic sessions open to writers of poetry, short stories, micro-fiction and novels. Just put your name down at the door if you want to read. Or just go along and listen to a great variety of spoken word literature from Bethany and many talented local writers.
