‘Cocoon’, an exhibition showing the versatility of Welsh wool, will be on display at T? Solar, Rhosygilwen, fromOctober 16 to 19.

Created by Lorraine Pocklington, the idea behind the project is to use Welsh wool to produce household items, including soft furnishings and clothing, as well as more unusual exhibits such as a giant caterpillar, fashioned entirely from Welsh wool.

Natural dyes harvested from plants growing on the Rhosygilwen estate have been used to colour the wool, which has been used to create handmade felt items.

Lorraine, whose textiles studio is in Aberystwyth, said: “The solar powered home, T? Solar, is the perfect place for the display of these handmade Welsh wool items. When Western Solar agreed to support an exhibition in their show house at Rhosygilwen, I was delighted.

“As a member of the Cambrian Mountains Wool Group, I am very keen to encourage use of locally produced wool. This event is an opportunity for people to see all kinds of possibilities for wool in the context of a family home.

“There is a growing in interest in wool, and following on from UK Wool Week it is great to be able to show the range of uses that can be found for our national asset.”

The solar house complete with its woolly display will be open from October 16 to 19, 10am to 4pm.

The exhibition is part funded by Arts Council of Wales.
