People in Ceredigion can feast their eyes on the work of over 150 artists and makers throughout the county this August in 70 venues, thanks to this year’s Art Trail.

“This is the third year of the Trail and it is bigger than ever”, explained Trail Co-ordinator, photographer Peter Jackman from Penbryn. “There is a surprising number of amazing artists and makers to be found working in Ceredigion. With the beautiful countryside and coast it’s not to be missed. It’s a real treat for visitors and residents alike. The Trail is also of great benefit to the local economy by attracting visitors into the county.”

Paintings, photography, sculpture and other works of art will be on display in Taster Exhibitions in various locations throughout August including the Da Mhile Distillery near Llandysul, Aberaeron Tourist Information Centre and the Black Lion Inn, New Quay.

This is the first time a Taster Exhibition has been held at the Da Mhile Distillery which is housed in an ancient farm building. It provides an excellent opportunity to see a range of local art as well as to visit the distillery itself which makes organic spirits and liqueurs and sells local cheeses. This year there is a new Tasting Room and Art Gallery.

The exhibition features eight Ceredigion artists; sculptors Alison Lochhead , Matthew Douglas, Ben Dearnley and Jon Evans, painters Averil Rees and Barbara Matthews, ceramicist and singer Joanna Bond, and photographer Peter Jackman. (Photo attached)

From 16th August 49 artists throughout the county will open their studios to the public, so people can meet them and learn first-hand about their work and techniques.

One artist opening his studio is landscape artist Andrew Francis in Adpar, Newcastle Emlyn. He works with acrylics and has spent the last few months painting in West Wales. “Ceredigion is a fantastic place for an artist,” said Andrew. ”There are so many scenes I want to paint. With the stunning coastline, the rivers and the woods, I’m spoilt for choice. I’m really looking forward to opening up my studio and gallery to visitors during the trail.”

Peter Jackman‘s photographs of West Wales coastal landscapes and townscapes will be on display at the Taster Exhibition at Llanerchaeron Mansion near Aberaeron from the 16th August. His recent work commemorates the centenary of Dylan Thomas’s birth. (Photo attached)

The Trail’s comprehensive website at http://ceredigionarttrail.org.uk/ has a directory of all the artists and makers taking part. Details of each artist and several pictures of their work are shown so, together with the maps and calendar of studio opening dates, you can choose which artists interest you and plan your own Trail route.

The free printed 64 page Trail Guide (also downloadable from the website) is now available from many local venues throughout the county.

Artist and maker events and workshops will continue throughout the year in Ceredigion and details can also be found on the website.
