The Cellar Bar is set to welcome back the wonderfully talented Ian Cal Ford and his captivating 'Storyteller' music show on Friday, August 1.

For the uninitiated this is a thoroughly entertaining, whistle stop tour, through the influences behind Ian's Country / Roots / Americana music.

Not least those of his father, Cal Ford 'The Welsh Johnny Cash', who Ian idolised and often accompanied on tour from the age of seven.

This meant that Ian was always surrounded by big name musicians and thus he began to pick up the sounds of Johnny Cash, Jimmie Rogers, Carl Perkins, Hank Williams, Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard to name but a few.

Ian could hardly be unmoved by the likes of Dave Edmunds and Mickey Gee coming to visit Cal and playing Carl Perkins songs until the early hours of the morning.

Whilst Ian is extremely proud of his father's influence he has none the less carved out a considerable reputation in his own right releasing several albums, recording in Nashville and Memphis (Sun Studios) and being invited to perform at the Grand Ol Opry.

A new album is set for release early next year.

No less an authority than Marshall Grant, the original bassist with Johnny Cash's backing duo the Tennessee Two, has congratulated Ian on the style with which he presents Johnny's songs, stating: "The kid’s got it just right."

On the night Ian will be accompanied by Dave Greaves on upright bass but watch out for a surprise special guest.

Tickets for the show are priced £5 and are available from the Castle Cafe and Cellar Bar or visit www.castlecafeandcellarbar.com.

Doors open 7.30p, show commences 9pm.
