Digital projection comes to Fishguard with its official launch on August 2.

The shortage of films at the cinema over the last few months has been the result of the lack of 35 mm reels which are now no longer produced. The new digital projector will be installed in the next two weeks.

The new projection and sound system has been funded by the Arts Council of Wales and Collaborative Communities with money from the National Lottery and supported by the Welsh Government.

“This is an exciting new beginning for the cinema,” said Richard Goswell, trust chairman. “This new technology will also allow for audio described and subtitling for both blind/partially sighted and deaf/hard of hearing people, a service we are unable to provide at present.

“We are also installing a satellite system that will enable us to deliver live performances from the major opera houses and theatres around the world.

“The acquisition of digital screening equipment brings our much loved venue into the 21st century and allows us to provide our community with the facilities and services that have become the 'norm' for the majority.”

There is a huge range of up-to-the-minute films being screened from August 1 onwards, including Mrs Brown’s Boys; Walking on Sunshine; Transformers: Age Of Extinction, and many more to be confirmed soon.

Films will be screened more frequently, with major children’s films featuring over the summer holidays.
