Award winning writer Horatio Clare will be the special guest at the Cellar Bards live literature event in Cardigan this Friday, June 27.

Variously a journalist, teacher, radio producer and broadcaster, Clare, who grew up in the Black Mountains, has worked on BBC Radio 4’s Front Row and Nightwaves and freelances for Radio 3’s The Verb.

He is the award-winning author of two memoirs, the best-seller Running for the Hills and Truant; the travel book A Single Swallow, and a novella, The Prince's Pen. His latest book, Down to the Sea in Ships is out now, published by Chatto and Windus.

Running for the Hills won a Somerset Maugham Award in 2007, was longlisted for the Guardian First Book Award 2006 and Clare was shortlisted for the Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year Award, 2007.

The Cellar Bards meet at 8pm on Friday, June 27, at the Castle Café Cellar Bar, Cardigan. Entry is £3.

As always, there are open mic sessions open to writers of poetry, short stories, micro-fiction and novels. Just put your name down at the door if you want to read. Or just go along and listen to a great variety of spoken word literature – from funny to sad to angry and fiercely political – by many talented local writers.

The Cellar Bards is hosted by writer Carly Holmes, who recently launched her first novel, The Scrapbook.
