The world oceans cover more than 70 percent of the surface of our planet and play a major role in regulating our climate, yet we know very little about them - perhaps less than 5 percent have been explored. So how are ocean scientists unlocking the secrets of the deep ocean?

To find out more about this cutting edge area of oceanographic research, be sure to come along to a free informal talk at the Guildhall, Cardigan, on Wednesday, June 25th at 7.30 p.m. presented by Dr. Katy Sheen (a local Cardigan girl), Siobhan Moran and Oliver Legge from the Universities of Southampton, Exeter and East Anglia.

This team of young scientists will chat about their recent scientific voyages to the remote and reputedly choppy Southern Ocean, where they have been collecting oceanographic measurements which will help to disentangle the forces driving the global oceans around our planet.

Come along for an informal talk to hear about their discoveries and to find out what life is like on an Antarctic base and research ship. There will be hands on science experiments and lots of photographs and video footage from the icy landscapes and the high seas.

All ages welcome!
