Span Arts’ monthly jazz club returns with the long-running favourites Saxpax playing at The Dingle Club in Narberth on June 18.

First formed in 1983 as a sax quartet playing classical as well as jazz music, the rhythm section - piano, bass, drums - were added a short time later. Some 29 years on the band is still going strong with jazz to the fore.

The music is varied and crosses over many of the styles of jazz including swing, be-bop, latin, west coast and fusion. This unique band is led by its original founder of Spanjazz, Jim Luxton and features several of the best horn players in West Wales.

Music will be swinging mainstream and West coast style with cool arrangements by the lead voices. The 'Four Brothers' of Woody Herman come to mind as a comparison. This will be an interesting and swinging night of creative music for four saxophones and rhythm.

The band features seven musicians playing a range of instruments including tenor, alto, soprano and baritone Saxes plus piano, bass and drums.

Span Arts' long-running jazz monthly takes place in a relaxed and comfortable spot, with world-class acts, real ales, and pizza available to order.

Tickets are available from the Span Arts box office on 01834 869323 or online at span-arts.org.uk. music starts at 8pm.
