What if all your in-laws are outlaws?

Alan Ayckbourn’s A Small Family Business, a riotous exposure of entrepreneurial greed, will be broadcast live to Theatr Mwldan from the National’s Olivier Theatre on Thursday June 12 at 6.45pm.

Directed by Adam Penford, the cast is led by Nigel Lindsay as Jack McCracken, and also includes Matthew Cottle, Debra Gillett, Gawn Grainger, Amanda Hadingue, Amy Marston, Gerard Monaco, Samuel Taylor and Niky Wardley.

Jack McCracken: a man of principle in a corrupt world. But not for long. Moments after taking over his father-in-law’s business he’s approached by a private detective armed with some compromising information. Jack’s integrity fades away as he discovers his extended family to be thieves and adulterers, looting the business from their suburban homes. Rampant self-interest takes over and comic hysteria builds to a macabre climax.

Nigel Lindsay’s television and film credits include Poirot, Gifted, The Tunnel, The Fear, Rogue Trader, Rome, Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa and Chris Morris’s Four Lions. He recently appeared as Bolingbroke in Richard II alongside David Tennant at the RSC and in the title role of Shrek The Musical (West End); he has previously appeared at the National in The Pillowman, The London Cuckolds, Blue Remembered Hills and Dealer’s Choice.

Adam Penford is the Associate Director and choreographer for the NT production of One Man, Two Guvnors (West End, Broadway, UK and international tour), and was Associate Director on the NT’s anniversary performance Live from the National Theatre: 50 Years on Stage, broadcast on BBC Two last autumn.

Previous plays by Alan Ayckbourn to have been produced at the NT are Bedroom Farce, Way Upstream, A Chorus of Disapproval, House/Garden, Sisterly Feelings, A Small Family Business, Season’s Greetings, Mr A’s Amazing Maze Plays and Invisible Friends.

Tickets for the National Theatre Live screenings of A Small Family Business are£12.50 (£11.50 concessions) and are available now from Theatr Mwldan’s Box Office on 01239 621200, online at www.mwldan.co.uk or via smartphones.
