Mezzo soprano Justina Gringyte has leapt into the limelight this last week when the English National Opera announced that she had been chosen for the lead role in Carmen. Only a couple of years ago she was playing the same role at Rhosygilwen’s summer opera under the tutelage of Buddug Verona James.
On Sunday the 18th May Justina sings an intimate selection of songs accompanied by Sergey Rhybin. The recital programme will include Berlioz' Nuit D'ete, Britten's Cabaret Songs and celebrated arias by Handel, Gluck, Bizet, Saint-Saens and Verdi.
This year Justina is at the Royal Opera House in Parsifal and makes house debuts with English National Opera as Maddalena (Rigoletto) in a new production by Christopher Alden, and with Welsh National Opera as Fenena (Nabucco). The production will be also be presented at the Savonlinna Festival. She will return to the Royal Opera House in 2014/15 as Maddalena (Rigoletto).
This is a unique opportunity to hear a singer who we will undoubtedly be hearing much more about in the years to come.
Tickets can be booked on Rhosygilwen.co.uk or by calling 01239841387 during office hours. Booking are also being taken for a preconcert supper at 6pm.
