Theatr Gwaun, the community venue in Fishguard, is delighted to be hosting a remarkable film which is part of local music venue Menter Rhosygilwen’s Music Without Frontiers Festival, showcasing music from across the world.

U-Carmen e Khayelitsha (12) is sung and spoken in Xhosa, one of South Africa’s eleven official languages. Based on Bizet’s opera Carmen, director Mark Dornford-May's adaptation is an impressive and entertaining film that relocates this tale of the love affair between Carmen and Don José in Khayelitsha, a shantytown in South Africa, against the backdrop of the hardship suffered by those who live in it. Framed within an atmospheric environment of gangsters and shebeens this interpretation is a celebration of South African dramatic art at its best.

See U-Carmen e Khayelitsha at Theatr Gwaun at 8pm on Wednesday April 16, tickets can be reserved at the Theatr Gwaun Box Office.
