Fishguard’s community venue, Theatr Gwaun, is serving up a really unusual selection of April films, as varied as the traditional April weather.

To kick off, from April 6 to 9 at 7.30pm, there’s A New York Winter's Tale (12A), an unusual fantasy romance starring Colin Farrell as a burglar falls for an heiress as she dies in his arms. When he learns that he has the gift of reincarnation, he sets out to save her.

The next showing, Mr Peabody & Sherman (U), really is one of those animations which will appeal as much to adults as children, as we see Mr Peabody and his adopted boy Sherman hurtling back in time to experience world-changing events first-hand and interact with some of the greatest characters of all time – and finding themselves in a race to repair history and save the future.

Mr. Peabody & Sherman (U) is showing on April13 and16 at 2.30pm; and April 14 and 15 at 6.30pm

Wednesday April 16 at 8pm is a date for music lovers, as Menter Rhosygilwen presents U-Carmen e Khayelitsha (12). This feature film, shown as part of the ‘Music Without Frontiers’ festival, is sung and spoken in Xhosa, one of South Africa’s eleven official languages. Based on Bizet’s opera Carmen, director Mark Dornford-May's adaptation is an impressive and entertaining film that relocates this tale of the love affair between Carmen and Don José in Khayelitsha, a shantytown in South Africa, against the backdrop of the hardship suffered by those who live in it. Framed within an atmospheric environment of gangsters and shebeens this interpretation is a celebration of South African dramatic art at its best.

And if music isn’t your thing, don't miss The Lego Movie (U) showing on April 21 at 2.30pm; April 22 and 23 at 6.30pm; and April 24 at 2pm.

And to round off the month in style, don’t miss the BAFTA Wales award-winning The Machine (15), showing from April 27 and 30 at 7.30pm. The Machine is set in London in the near future, and with a global war looming. Top scientist Vincent (Toby Stephens) is briefed with developing the ultimate killing machine, so he creates the first fully conscious robot, but against orders he makes it in the image of his lost love plunging him into a battle for his very survival. This film is shown with assistance from Film Audience Wales.
