In the second evening of Span Arts’ new classical music series, Trystan Llyr Griffiths – the Voice of Wales – performs at Hotel Plas Hyfryd in Narberth on Thursday 3 April, for a congenial evening of music, food and drink.

The Welsh tenor is accompanied by Seimon Morris on piano, in an evening of classical music including Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Cosi Fan Tutte and Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress.

Recently named as the Decca ‘Voice of Wales’ in a recent TV series, following in the hallowed footsteps of Katherine Jenkins and Only Men Aloud, it may surprise some to know that the extraordinary male tenor hails from Clunderwen, Pembrokeshire.

Trystan has been described as having an “effortless, beautiful voice”, and has become a popular crowd-pleasing performer across Wales. One of his concert highlights includes performing with Bryn Terfel at the Hay-on-Wye festival, from whom he also received the first Study Award from the Bryn Terfel Foundation.

Trystan Llyr, as he is often known, has been singing for Eistedfoddau since he was five. Due to his success, he has been far-flung from Pembrokeshire, and recently went on tour as a guest soloist in a concert tour of Australia with the Morriston Orpheus Choir, which also awarded him the Singer of the Year award in 2012.

Performing with Trystan is Seimon Morris on piano, who has appeared on Songs of Praise in the ‘Connie Fisher’s Pembrokeshire’ episode, and is the musical director of Tempus, the brilliant singing group that supported S4C’s Caryl Parry Jones at the opening night of the recent Narberth A Cappella Voice Festival 2014.

Span Arts new series of classical music events are pleasant and informal evenings at Plas Hyfryd, a charming country hotel in Narberth. From 6pm onwards chef-cooked food will be available to order (advance booking essential) and the performance will start at 7:30pm, with the bar open until late, making this the perfect informal social event.
