ORIEL Q – Queens Hall Gallery Narberth presents three exhibitions this autumn.
Stuart Evans’ ‘Journey West USA’ installation and prints; Gideon Petersen’s sculptures and
Alec James’ photographs can be viewed at the gallery until November 16, Wednesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm.
Stuart Evans has created a stunning exhibition based on his journey from Texas to San Francisco in 2011, which he developed as his final MA show in Aberystwyth entitled ’Journey West U.S.A.’ He constructed ladders from driftwood that he gleaned from the beach in Borth where he lives , and used these as metaphors to describe a story.
Stuart drew and mapped his journey, and on his return developed these drawings and created lino prints, some, on tissue paper which echo the transient nature of travel and also produced etchings of ladders which echo the fragility of their skeletal structure.
In Oriel Fach is an exhibition of sculptures by Gideon Petersen. An artist blacksmith, Gideon has been busy with commissions, the latest being for the Welsh Assembly, the St David’s Award for Cultural Excellence and others, and a five metre high sculpture for the new art and design building in Cardiff. He has also been producing his own work, mostly in mild steel and there are some fine examples on display in the small gallery.
The third exhibition is a collection of photographs taken by Alec James while travelling in Australia and New Zealand. There is also a fine collection of ceramics, jewellery and sculptures in the showcases.
