GOODWICK Brass Band returned from another triumphant weekend not only with their West Wales title retained but also a youth band victory to celebrate.

Just a fortnight after winning a British title, Goodwick reprised their superb performance of Purcell Variations to beat seven other bands and emerge clear winners of the Second Section competition at the West Wales Festival of Brass at Burry Port.

Matthew Jenkins won the M.E.Jones Challenge Trophy as winning conductor and the band won the Joe C Pearce Memorial Cup and £200 prize money.

Adjudicator John Doyle from Lancashire said: “A band of sheer class. Interpretation epic. Thank you for giving us a masterclass.”

Shortly afterwards, Goodwick’s newly-formed Youth band, conducted by Luke Jenkins, won the Gold Award in the Junior and Youth Section, finishing ahead of City of Cardiff, Crwbin and BTM.

It was an adventurous and highly entertaining programme of four contrasting numbers - African Funk, Young Amadeus, I Will Follow Him and Kletzmer Party.

Adjudicator Robert Samuel praised the confidence and style shown by Goodwick’s young players saying: “I really enjoyed this performance. You can be really proud of yourselves.”
