BUDDING actor Dion Davies from Adpar, Newcastle Emlyn will be one of six young performers competing for the coveted Urdd Gobaith Cymru Bryn Terfel Scholarship 2013.
The concert, presented by Nia Roberts and Ifan Jones Evans, will be held in the Great Hall, Aberystwyth Arts Centre, and will be shown live on S4C on October 6, from 7pm.
On October 2 S4C viewers will be able to see the six being coached in workshops by some of the most prominent performers in their field in a preview programme Ysgoloriaeth Urdd Gobaith Cymru Bryn Terfel 2013, 9.30pm. Dion’s chosen mentor was actor and comedian Owain Arthur.
The six who’ll be competing for the Scholarship and a cash prize of £4,000 were all winners of individual competitions under 25 years of age at this year’s Pembrokeshire Urdd National Eisteddfod.
Dion, aged 19, a former pupil at Ysgol Gyfun Dyffryn Teifi, won the Theatric Presentation competition at the Pembrokeshire Urdd National Eisteddfod.
He is a member of Ysgol Gerdd Ceredigion and travelled with the school to Hungary to compete as a member of the choir. A talented pianist, he’s been a member of Cardigan District Youth Group, Dyffryn Tywi Performance School and the Urdd Youth Theatre Company performing in several productions.
Dion said: “It’s a great honour to be part of this competition. I am very happy that I have reached this stage and look forward to learning new pieces. Winning the scholarship would have a great effect on my life. It would allow me to have singing and acting lessons while in University, would enable me to attend summer drama schools and possibly to do a masters’ degree in Drama. Winning the scholarship would certainly be a great boost to my career.”
