Ballet Nimba is the creation of Guinean Choreographer Idrissa Camara with dancers and musicians drawn from across West Africa.

Their performance at Mwldan on Thursday February 21 at 7.30pm will feature potent musicianship, high octane dance, soaring vocals and outstanding percussion. Bagatai was inspired by Camara’s recent trip back to his father’s homeland, the often secretive world of the Baga, a people revered and even feared for their art and beliefs.

Based on the African Ballet, a tradition born in The Republic of Guinea, Ballet Nimba tells the mythologies and history of the region using artistic choreography made famous by Les Ballets Africains du Guinee.

Rooted in tradition and mythology but performed by young contemporary artists, Ballet Nimba features six agile, graceful dancers, the rare talents of a Fulani Flute player from Guinea; a Ngonii (African acoustic guitar) player from Cote D’ivoire and a Bolon Bata (African bass) player from Guinea. Rhythms on Djembe, Doundouns, Kirin and Wassaoumba is provided by some of West Africa’s most outstanding young percussionists, accompanied by an amazing female vocalist.

Tickets for Ballet Nimba are £14 (£12), available to book from the Box Office on 01239 621200, online at www.mwldan.co.uk, or via SmartPhones by visiting mwldan.ticketsolve.com/mobile.
