Your paper highlights the dirty wards at Barnet Hospital (December 7).
Having worked in the NHS for many years as a domestic and then a mental health and general health nursing assistant from the time the Conservative government let NHS hospitals use private cleaning staff, many NHS staff simply left.
I continue to take people to all NHS hospitals including Barnet as a private care worker. As many NHS patients end up in private homes I have made up the following motto: working together, working as one.
I will be using this during 2001 to improve care standards in the NHS and private homes during handovers etc. But it remains my view that all NHS hospitals must work as one unit.
