Four members of the New Quay RNLI crew have received a letter of commendation from Michael Vlasto, Operations Director at RNLI headquarters in Poole for their brave action in recovering a body from rocks near the bay last October. The crew was mustered on a Saturday afternoon following a report that a body was seen at the foot of cliffs.
Helmsmen Brett Stones and Tomas Davies, accompanied by crew members Hanna Nuuttila and Peter Yates, promptly set off in the station's inshore lifeboat and, having anchored the boat, Brett and Tomas went ashore and recovered the body, which was immediately returned to the station where it was handed over to the waiting police and ambulance crew.
Lifeboat Operations Manager Albert Moller commented, "The action of our young volunteer crew demonstrated their professionalism and public spirited outlook in carrying out so promptly and sensitively an unpleasant and difficult operation. It is typical of the tasks which we unfortunately have to carry out from time to time".
