Newport Beach, on Easter Bank Bank Holiday Sunday morning, had the holiday makers soon filling the car park with their children, dogs, boats, buckets and spade and picnic equipment. Many arrived in expectation of clouds or even rain. The sun and calm sea was an opportunity they seized. Matthew from Crystal Palace had already spent a week trudging across the Preseli Hills and through the Gwaun Valley with his chocolate Labrador, Bertie. "I want to walk round Dinas Head before I leave," he said. "I have to catch a train from Fishguard to Cardiff and then to London late tonight." This was his first visit to the area and he intends to return. After stopping at a farm near Brynberian to ask directions he was offered a lift with his dog to Newport Beach. He says, "I have met this kind of welcome all week and am amazed that people are so friendly here compared to a city."
