The Welsh National Poultry Show at Haverfordwest last weekend featured regional championships for Anconas, Brahmas, Minorca, New Hampshire Red, Plymouth Rock and Oxford Game and, in addition to the Domestic Waterfowls Western championship there were sections for Call ducks, Indian runners, geese and turkeys.

Held under the patronage of the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society and sponsored by Clynderwen and Cardiganshire Farmers this 33rd annual show organised by the Dyfed Society at the Brithdir Poultry Exhibition Centre attracted in excess of 1,500 entries in a total of almost 600 classes.

Exhibits were forward from across South Wales and Herefordshire, Shropshire, Berkshire, Surrey, East Sussex and the Isle of White.

Particularly successful were John Kay and his son, Peter, from Lincolnshire who took the fowl championship with their winning bantams; the Wakeham brothers from Devon with their geese, Old English Game and rare breeds and Jenny Soper from Hampshire with her bantam and call ducks from which she also gained a championship.

One of the three officiating judges from Germany, Jens Dopheide, was the guest speaker at the annual dinner held on Sunday evening at Milford Haven.
