The part-time library situated in Bank House was due to open this afternoon after the seasonal break.
However, a burst water pipe in the flat above has caused extensive damage to the library over the holiday period and led to electrical problems.
The Council is working to repair the damage and get the library opened as soon as possible, although it is unlikely to be open this Wednesday.
Borrowers can return their books to any library in Pembrokeshire or wait for Newport library to re-open with no penalties suffered if books are overdue.
Newport Library’s opening hours are: Mondays 2pm to 5pm; Wednesday 10am to 1pm and Fridays 10am to 12 noon and 2pm to 5pm.
