The Management Committee of the Brynberian Community Centre continues to surprise and delight with the programme for the Annual Christmas Dinner. This year, even after so many memorable dinners, is considered by many who were there on 6th December to be exceptional. Glyndwr Vaughan, the chairman, gave his usual lively introduction and invited Cerwyn Davies, a Congregational Minister who has been working in Canada for 45 years, to say grace. Mr Davies, with his wife Nora, has made a welcome return to the area and now, postponing his retirement, has responsibility for six local churches. Mr Vaughan, and his audience, hope that Mr Davies will find time to share some of his Canadian experiences on a future visit to the Centre.

The dinner, the work of a busy group of cooks, was as varied and tasty as ever. To mention any particular item is perhaps unfair but the cawl set the standard for the remainder of the meal. Glyndwr Vaughan, with obvious personal pleasure, then introduced Marged and Ffion Rees, National Eisteddfod Urdd Winners and who live in BRYNBERIAN. Marged, aged 12 and Ffion, aged 10, sang to the accompaniment on the piano of their local teacher, Marilyn Lewis. This was followed by a varied recital of Christmas Carols, recitations and their own accompaniment on the harp. For many their singing of the old favourite Holy Night was especially evocative of Christmas. With their talent and confidence Glyndwr Vaughan echoed the views of many that we will be hearing much more of Marilyn and Ffion in the future.

As part of an imaginative programe to involve all in the community the Chairman reminded his listeners that a "fun program" to help people learn some Welsh is beginning in January and he hopes this will be supported.
