JUNE 17th saw us going on our Annual Mystery Trip which turned out to be a visit to Mr Thomas' Love Spoon Workshop at Cold Inn nr. Broadmoor in Pembrokeshire where we were given an amusing but instructive talk on the history and making of Welsh Love Spoons. Afterwards we went to Tafarn Sinc at Rosebush for a lovely meal. On returning to Newcastle Emlyn, Iris thanked Barbara for organising this successful and very enjoyable trip – informative, gastronomic and picturesque.

At our July Meeting we were entertained again by Bonny Bullock and Doreen Lloyd of Laugharne. On their second visit Doreen told us of some of the people she had met as a Salvation Army Field Officer and how they had influenced her life in their own very special ways. Doreen also believes very strongly in the power of laughter and we certainly get plenty of that when these two ladies are around. Bonny's singing- often with her own words added, is the perfect complement to Doreen' talk. Barbara thanked the speakers on our behalf. Congratulations to Carol Kuhlmann for coming 2nd in the County Competition for the Denman Cup for a Monologue entitled "Not the WI".

Both her and Jo Brookes read out their entries. The Competition for a "Favourite Hymn" was won jointly by June Ironside and Jo Brookes. Mollie Walsh was second and Carol Kuhlmann and Sheila Brooking came joint third. Jo Brookes won the raffle. Hostess was Sherlie Garton. Thank you Sherlie. Our next Meeting is on September 15th when our speaker will be Bernadette Jones "Nun to Hill Farming", who comes highly recommended. Information from Barbara on 01239 710127 or Ruth on 01239 710620.
