There is something for everyone at the annual Pontgarreg Carnival and Sports which takes place next Tuesday, 28th July in the field next to Pontgarreg Hall (inside if wet). Entrance is £1.50 (children free) and all proceeds go towards the costs of running the Hall. This year’s Carnival Queen is Miss Alice Raine, and her attendants are Miss Ceinwen Dixon, Miss Megan Raine, Miss Laura Watmough, Miss Rhian Griffiths-Levy, Miss Shona Taylorson and Miss Rachel Winkley.

Apart from the stalls, refreshments and raffle there will be a Fancy Dress Children’s Section (Categories are Child under 4 years, Child 4 and 5 years, Child 6, 7 and 8 years, Child 9 – 12 years, and Best Dressed 13 – 16 years, and Best Pair in Children’s Section) as well as a Best Decorated Bike competition. In the Adults Section there are competitions for Best Dressed Adult, Best pair of ladies ankles and Best pair of gents’ knees. The Children’s Sports races have something for all ages, including egg and spoon, three-legged, sack, wheelbarrow and slow bicycle races. There are races for adults too, including the Grandparents. The MC is Cllr. Ian ap Dewi. Later in the week there is a Bingo session in the Hall (Wednesday, 29th July at 7.30 p.m.); a Duck Race in Llangrannog at 3.00 p.m. on Thursday, 30th July; a Folk Dance on Thursday evening, 30th July, in the Hall at 7.30, and the Car Treasure Hunt on Friday evening, 31st July starting from the Hall between 6 and 7 p.m.
