Ysgol Bro Gwaun’s Hall was the venue for a most relaxed and enjoyable Certificate Evening, chaired by Mr. Oliver Johns, Chair of the Governing Body. The Guest Speaker, Mr Mansel Raymond, MBE, was introduced by Mr Johns as a past pupil whose pioneering and entrepreneurial work in farming make him an excellent role model for young people today.

In his address, Mr Raymond gave an inspired and inspiring speech, in which he detailed how he and his brothers had determined to use their talents and abilities to build on their parents’ work, to develop and expand their farming business - from milk churn to microchip - into the extremely successful enterprise it is today. On congratulating the pupils on their excellent results, Mr Raymond encouraged them not to fear change, but to embrace it determinedly and to persevere and be flexible as they worked hard towards their goals.

The Headteacher, Ms Christine Wright, stressed how all elements and participants in the school’s life combine to ensure that its pupils achieve such high standards, and thanked all concerned for their invaluable input.

The Head Prefects, Miss Tanya Davies and Mr. Kenneth Tsang, gave the guests an informative and comprehensive overview of 2007-2008’s wide and varied range of extra-curricular enrichment activities, and the deputy Head prefects, Miss Megan Thomas-Jones and Mr Ken Chung delivered the vote of thanks.
