The theme of the afternoon’s demonstration by Mrs Pam McGrath was ‘Driftwood’. She created an open and curvaceous arrangement using a magnificent tree root as the basis of the design. Branches of weeping copper beech gave the outline, supported by Lonicera Baggesoins Gold, variegated Berberis thumbergu atropurpurea and two pygmy date palm leaves (Pheonix reobelenu).
Curls of spotted laurel provided substance at the base of the design. Choisya ternata ‘Sundance’ was used for the receding focal point, with stems of Hypericum providing another change to texture. Crimson hazel nuts gave a further shape and accentuated the colour of berberis.
This was glorious display of garden foliage with the exception of the palm leaves, demonstrating textural interest, colour and shape. Mrs McGrath delighted us with her sense of style and balance. Mrs Rosemary Bowen was very pleased to win the arrangement in the raffle.
The club is looking forward to welcoming Mrs Cynthia Preston Jones as demonstrator at an open evening on Friday 25th of September. Her theme will be ‘It is written in the start’. Croes i bawb.
New members are always welcome. The club meets on alternate Fridays in Aberporth Village Hall. Contact Mrs Rachel Ogilive (secretary) for details.
