NEWCASTLE EMLYN U3A: Our meeting on October 7 was a double. First was Leslie Oldale from Hywel Dda who are starting a pilot scheme around the new Community Service which is available for recently discharged patients and is accessed through the community nurse and is to enable patients settle back at home.

Our main event was Val Crichton talking about “Inside Out”, her experience of being part of the office staff in the prison service. About coping with all the forms and all the intricacies of the daily running of the prison. All with many funny anecdotes to the appreciation of our members.

We have started a new regime this month with one of our groups presenting their work and activities. This time it was the Crafty Crafters who showed us their wide range of activities and of new skills they are learning. Each month one of our groups will present their activity to the meeting.

Our November meeting on November 4 will be Sara Rochira from the Welsh Assembly talking on the “Work of the The Older People's Commissioner for Wales”. The group represented will be our Scrabble Group

HANES EMLYN HISTORY: The exhibitions are still open due to popular demand. We are open Tuesday to Saturday from 11am to 2.30pm. Alongside our “Then & Now” photo exhibition are some new items. A great deal of research has gone into producing a record of every gravestone and memorial to those who fell in the 1914-18 War over a five-mile radius from Newcastle Emlyn. The latest project is to put names to people on group photographs and we have had quite a response to this. We have just acquired a large number of group photographs from Henllan Modern School and early Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn groups. Several people are helping us with these at the moment but if you think you can help name these pupils please call in and see us. We will also be open Victorian Evening when our displays will include Old Victorian Evening photographs from 2004 to 2007. The castle, schools, railway, duel and the electricity sets are still to be seen enhanced by computer displays. These have all been enjoyed over the last few weeks by a large number of visitors and family history has taken off once again with many Australian and New Zealanders in this country for the Rugby World Cup.
